I'm a software developer living in Portugal. I have been programming for over 15 years, and I'm delighted by clean design and well crafted solutions to real-world problems. I currently work mainly with C#, on the Microsoft .NET technology stack, however I have experience with a wide array of languages and technologies, both legacy and bleeding-edge.Right now I am in startup mode, rebooting a company's software product that will revolutionize how retail businesses manage their stores.   I am currently employed here, and I am responsible for software product development. Our flagship, Optiware, is a complete invoicing and management software package, aimed at the Portuguese optician and glasses retail market, with hundreds of installations across the country. We mainly use Microsoft technologies, with .NET as our main development platform, SQL Server / Microsoft Access as our databases, and Windows Server and related technologies for our backend.In my role I have researched, planned and implemented a multitude of projects that serve our goal of supplying our clients with leading technological solutions to their business needs, from which I can highlight:- Migration of the main 200 KLOC Windows application, originally written in Visual Basic 6, to modern C#/WPF, using scalable software architecture techniques, while maintaining compatibility with working installations.- Continuous improvement of the application to ensure that business needs are met, and that the application is compliant with Portuguese and European invoicing and tax reporting laws.- Integration with a multitude of APIs, both for online services and speciality hardware.- An SMS communication gateway that works with either locally attached GSM modems or remote APIs to deliver low cost messaging for our clients.- A backend licensing, telemetry and diagnostics platform for quick error resolution and billing.
