All behavior has meaning, but to get to that meaning takes time, patience, and courage. As an advocate for the oppressed, I join with individuals and families to work collaboratively at redefining their future and enhancing their natural skills and abilities. I seek to work with vulnerable populations, specifically families of color, the LGBTQ community, youth experiencing homelessness and the intersections of these populations. My work to date has involved Intensive care coordination in a community service organization. As the liaison for communication and collaboration between service providers and families, I conducted the necessary assessments to determine medical necessity for services. Once determined, maintaining constant contact with families to ensure receipt of services. Additionally, I worked with school systems to advocate for client needs and created safety plans where needed.My internship afforded me the opportunity as a mental health intern to consult Headstart classrooms to promote better social and emotional well-being. One-to-one support was provided in the classroom as well as in the therapeutic playroom. Treatment plans, DECA, CAFAS and other assessments were used in the implementation of the best coordination of care for my clients and families.The Urban leadership designation is an area I wish to enhance through experience and education in program development at the macro level. Learning the intricacies of large non-profit organizations and how to pool together the most tangible resources that promotes the strengths of individuals while educating communities about the support provided by the organization.
