Interdisciplinary Philosopher | Strategic Talent Partner | Human-Centered Behaviorist | Talent Stargazer | Unnaturally CuriousHave you ever wanted to change your past? Sometimes I think back to my undergrad, wondering if I could have done something different. Majoring in Cognitive Science I thought I wanted to become that neuroscientist earning a Nobel Prize, or two. I was excited, I was ambitious, and mostly, I was interested. But delving into this interdisciplinary field ranging from psychology to computer science, I was overwhelmed. As intriguing as each discipline of Cog Sci is, it was just as challenging to conquer them as separate subjects. I was perplexed between each neurotransmitter and its function. I struggled to figure out bugs in my code modeling cognition. Eventually, I could not differentiate between simply getting by and actually learning.That was until I was exposed to the world of business, and became fascinated by how it leverages its human capital with respect to social psychology and organizational behavior. And if Cog Sci taught me anything, it is the value of synthesizing multiple perspectives into a holistic understanding of an organization, of an innovative idea, and so on. This has led me to pursue a career in talent sourcing & recruiting for purposeful organizations.It’s amazing to see how Talent Acquisition is the convergence of people and business. It is also the very witness to the dynamic, physical manifestation of the psychological and sociological phenomena I’ve learned about. Now, I’m pursued an MBA to help complement my Cog Sci knowledge and fill in those business gaps that I’ve witnessed as a peripheral bystander.However, the recruiting industry itself can be taken for granted. And even looked down upon. But it’s all the more reason for me to do my part of breaking negative stereotypes and helping stakeholders understand that my industry is a partnership. Not a mere agency throwing as many resumes as possible to see what lands.
