• ESTABLISHED COMPANY-WIDE SUBSCRIPTION REPORTING. Developed a fully automated, daily updated, forward-looking representation of Datto’s $450M in monthly recurring subscription revenue, across five invoicing systems. It interprets complex contract terms, pending deals, transfers, free months, trials, dynamic usage, retroactive deal changes, and many unique billing models. This data set is considered the single “Source of Truth” for all of Datto’s internal and external financial reporting.• AUTOMATED BOOKINGS. Developed an automated process to detect changes to customer subscriptions and compute the change in ARR appropriately for even the most complicated deals. This system allowed a team of three analysts to handle over 3x the number of subscriptions, while slashing errors and improving transparency.• AUTOMATED 606 REVENUE RECOGNITION. Developed a fully automated monthly process to recognize revenue, compliant with the 606 Accounting Standard Code. This slashed the work of several accountants from weeks per month to fewer than three hours per month, with considerably improved accuracy.• CREATED AND MAINTAINED A “CLEAN” SALESFORCE LIST OF ACCOUNTS. Deduplicated and merged 460K accounts across six disparate invoicing and CRM systems, reduced to fewer than 280K accounts for load into Salesforce. Then, developed and maintained an automated monthly process for reliably detecting and mitigating duplicates, even under tricky circumstances like company renames, mergers and acquisitions. • MIGRATED FOUR BILLING SYSTEMS INTO NETSUITE. Solely responsible for re-articulating customer subscriptions from four billing systems (two implementations of Zuora, and two custom invoicing systems) to be loaded into NetSuite. Far more than a simple contract migration, this involved expressing new forms of pricing, discounting, ordering, and provisioning: All in ways radically different, yet 100% revenue neutral, for all customers.

• STANDARDIZED DEAL VALUATION. Nicknamed “Drive” (the Deal, Revenue and Invoicing Valuation Engine), this system predicts, in real time, the Revenue and Invoicing value of new or modified deals (the terms of which can be extremely complex and inter-linked with usage), based upon specific contract terms and forecasted internet traffic patterns. Akamai uses DRIVE to approve new deals, to pay Sales Rep commissions, and to measure Product Manager productivity.• STANDARDIZED SALES TERRITORY INVESTMENT. Developed a tool (“LP Investor”) used by Senior Management to optimize Akamai’s sales investments. This system uses a Linear Programming model to guide investment in Akamai’s 48 Sales Territories, in a manner that maximizes total ROI while honoring more than twenty operational considerations per territory. These considerations include average rep tenure, account penetration, market saturation, and Max/Min spending thresholds per Territory, Geography and Business Unit. • STANDARDIZED SALES NEGOTIATIONS. Developed a tool (“Comparables Generator”), to help salespeople easily identify the best products, deal terms and prices to propose to customers. Reps can enter any known deal or account details (from a list of thirty-five characteristics, including geography, industry, total spend, types of traffic served), and optionally adjust the relative importance of each. A scoring algorithm then compares this customer to every active customer, finds the most similar deals, and uses that data to make context-specific deal recommendations.

• AUTOMATED COGS ALLOCATIONS. Developed a tool (“Cogs 2.0”) for collecting and reporting upon the cost of Akamai’s extensive server network. It applies complex depreciation and usage rules to Akamai’s 200K+ servers, and subsequently allocates indirect costs based upon product, traffic, and account details. The result is a fair, Finance-blessed, and widely-used view of per-account and per-product costs.• AUTOMATED FORECASTED REVENUE. Developed “the Robot”, Akamai’s Revenue Forecasting system, it produces the revenue forecast announced each quarter to Wall Street analysts. This system forecasts internet traffic for every Akamai client, identifying client-specific trending and seasonality. It then runs these forecasts through our Invoicing system, to generate a hyper-detailed simulation of the upcoming quarter. It has been in use for more than ten years.• STANDARDIZED DEAL DESK PRICING APPROVAL. Developed a system for Akamai’s Deal Desk to properly determine mathematical price curves, based upon a variety of product and deal characteristics. This let Deal Desk members quickly and consistently approve special pricing situations.
