A design generalist by profession, and an architect by training, Akash can be found exploring numerous avenues—like culture, philosophy and astrophysics—drawing insights from his interests which are applied to all of his work; writing, design and strategy. Inspired by polymaths who made radical discoveries and innovations due to their inherent curiosity, he questions the norms and is driven to find new perspectives. After graduating as an architect in 2021 from Mumbai University, Akash joined Mercury Architects as a junior architect, working for a year on residential projects in India and New Zealand. After a full-time stint as an architectural designer, Akash realised his drive for multi-disciplinarity and started working independently on interior design and other creative projects, while exploring ways to apply his critical writing skills and channel his curiosity into the theoretical exploration of design. He saw the potential of communicating design through words to non-designers, since design writing has historically been inaccessible to people who do not belong to the discipline. It was during this time that he also discovered his interest in making social impact-driven initiatives, which led him to be a part of such a publication - Proseterity, an independent art and literary publication that believes in the power of the written word and art in shaping futures, forging hope, and bringing together minds. Currently, Akash wears multiple hats and can be found navigating one of his many pursuits. He is the Managing Director at Proseterity. He is a partner at Unicus Design Studio, working on architecture and design projects. He freelances as a design writer with publications like Stir and also collaborates with other designers to build narratives for their projects. In his downtime, He can be found hosting events as the founder of a discourse community Reverie (founded in 2018), which holds monthly meetups, with perspectives pouring in from people from all walks of life.
