I am committed to making information and data accessible through accurate, succinct, and engaging communication. I specialize in written and geospatial communication.I have been working with geospatial information and technology for 35 years. I got my start as an undergraduate geography major at Penn State using pen and ink, scribing materials, photography, and SAS on a mainframe to make maps and analyze spatial data. I am fortunate to have started early in the life cycle of geospatial technology development, affording me a true understanding of what is going on behind the myriad interfaces available today. The programming skills I picked up in the mid-1980s for computer cartography and image processing are back in vogue. The requirements for effective map communication are more important than ever now that maps are shared on many more platforms and media. While geographically referenced digital data are increasingly accessible, there are still seemingly endless opportunities for building new data sets, improving the quality of existing ones and streamlining the use of such data. Technology, geospatial and otherwise, have connected us across vast distances, but the human touch is no less important.
