My passion has always been teaching, educating and mentoring medical students and residents in the early stages of a career in Surgery, Trauma and Critical Care. For 20+ years, I've taught Surgery Board Review, ATLS for undergraduate and graduate medical students as well as established surgeons.This is what brought me to become a Board Advisor and the Education Program Director for Clinical Masters, Inc., a partner of the Dream Seekers Academy. I direct a multidisciplinary team where I’m accountable for ensuring the highest quality of patient care for all trauma and surgical patients in this 415-bed hospital. In addition, I am Director of the Surgical ICU and the Site Director for the SUNY Downstate Surgery Resident Program.Highlights:✔ Transformed unrecognized regional Trauma program into an ACS verified Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, the first in NYC to earn the national distinction of dual designation.✔ Increased Trauma patient admissions by 250% from 650/year to1500/year, thus surpassing the Level I requirement, which is 1200/year.✔ Trained and educated 120+ residents at all levels on general surgical principals, trauma, critical care, and ICU.✔ Founded a Trauma & Critical Care Research Program where, I trained and mentored 500+ medical students to participate in data collection, data analysis, abstract writing and presentation of 20+ studies on various aspects of Trauma & Critical Care at both national and international conferences (ACCP, ACS, SCCM, among others).✔ With input from the EMS Director, designed a plan to geographically expand emergency coverage based on demographic analysis of patient intake, strategically placing ambulances in high traffic areas for broader, optimal emergency coverage. ✔ Plan included creating protocol books to ensure standard of care is met in each area; Setting compliance percentage benchmarks to meet Level I quality.✔ As Performance Improvement Director, I managed transition to PI-oriented, Level I Trauma Center by coordinating with Directors and attending physicians of 20+ subspecialties and instituted a plan in accord with Level I requirements, spanning EMS care, ER care, Floor care, ICU care and OR Care.

I started out as Director of Trauma & Surgical Critical Care at NYC-HHC Lincoln Hospital Medical Center in The Bronx from 2005 to 2006.From 2006 to 2013, I was Director of Trauma & Surgical Critical Care at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, a 350-bed hospital, where I managed care for all trauma and surgical patients.Additional roles include: Associate Director of Surgery Residency Program✔ Managed 15+ residents at all levels at any given time, establishing and enforcing the clinical and technical requirements for all residents.Director of Medical Education ✔ Managed instruction for 100+ medical students rotating at any given time; trained 2000+ students overall.✔ Developed and Implemented the didactic curriculum for medical students including lecture series and scheduled clinical assignments in: Clinic, Ambulatory Surgery, OR cases for all specialties, Floor patient management (Day and Night), and Wound Care. ✔ Mentored and Trained 1000+ medical students to participate in data collection, data analysis, abstract writing and presentation of 20+ studies on various aspects of Trauma & Critical Care at both national and international conferences (ACCP, ACS, SCCM, among others).✔ My lecture series (content and questions) became the standard for every hospital where American University of Antigua (AUA) students rotate (Wyckoff Heights and Kingsbrook Jewish, among others).✔ My scheduled clinical curriculum was commended by the NY Department of Education (Reviewer, Walter Ramos) – for being an innovative and comprehensive approach to medical education – our program maximized clinical exposure, in contrast to standard rotation programs. Director of Surgical ICU✔ Oversaw and managed care for all patients in the ICU.Medical Director of Emergency Department ✔ From 2006 to 2009, I implemented all quality improvement programs in ERs (pneumonia treatment protocols, heart treatment protocols, standards that NYDH setup for all hospitals).

Iowa Methodist is one of two Level I Trauma Centers in the state of Iowa. As Director of Trauma & Surgical Critical Care from 2000 to 2004, I was accountable for managing care for all trauma and surgical patients in this 600-bed hospital. Highlights✔ Led development of the local trauma program into the state’s only ACS verified Level I Trauma Center for both Adult and Pediatric. ✔ Increased number of trauma admissions by over 40% from 1400 to 2000+ by working with EMS to position ambulance teams in high-propensity areas and verifying Level I status.✔ Developed and implemented the PI plan that reduced mortalities to <2% and average hospital stays from 7 days to 5 days; commended for nationally outstanding program by ACS, ACCP.✔ Published/Presented more trauma and critical care abstracts than most university programs on an annual basis. I hold the international record for most abstracts (16) published/presented in a single year at the ACCP (1996).
