Starting out as an Emergency Medical Technician I worked on a BLS ambulance (dual EMT), running (code 2) 911 calls and inter-facility transports. I did patient care and assessments as well as driving the ambulance. Before my shift started I was in charge of preparing the ambulance; stocking supplies, checking oxygen levels, switching oxygen tanks, and inspecting the tires, lights, and mechanical functions of the ambulance. I have had experience including long distance transports and critical care transports. I became efficient performing patient assessments, taking manual and automatic vital signs, rendering patient care, giving and taking reports, and doing paperwork. After working the BLS system for 6 months I interviewed and was promoted to the ALS system, (code 3) 911 calls responding lights and sirens with a paramedic. I had the same responsibilities as before including new ones such as performing 12 lead EKGs and assisting the paramedic with other ALS skills and medications. I am currently employed fulltime on 12 hours shifts. I am able to adapt my schedule to what my work demands and perform at my best at any time needed before and after my shift including; days, nights, swing shift, weekends, and holidays. I have worked on multiple trauma and medical patients including STEMIs, CVAs, GSWs, TCs, Burns, Seizures, Psych, OB, and more. I have worked on multiple MCI calls and pride myself on the awareness, speed, efficiency, and professionalism I provide to the system. I am planning on applying for a Training Officer position the next time an opening is available to teach new hires and inspire them to work in the field of EMS. I love to work hard and help people by going above and beyond what my job description is, making the difference with patient care and interaction. I want to give more to the EMS system as it also has more experience to give to me.
