Special Education /School Based Mentor/Special Olympics Coach/ Member Of The School'S Learning Team
CurrentAs a Special Education Teacher who just finished my 12th school year, I'm looking forward to trying out some new ideas. This last year was my first year in a co-teaching/ inclusive setting. I had worked with students that have significant cognitive and physical disabilities prior to this. Regardless of the student and their ability level, the goal is to get them as independent as possible so they can have the best quality of life possible. I work with families, care givers and service providers to create annual goals for the IEP. As a School Based Mentor, I worked with new teachers and teachers that were new to the building to get them oriented to the building and support them with anything they may need to be a successful educator. I would facilitate monthly meetings, any special training necessary and meet with teachers one on one to provide support and feedback. When I was a Special Olympics Coach, I worked with my students and their families so they could participate in Special Olympic Activities. I have also chaperoned students to SO events on weekends. Lastly, as a member of our school's Learning Team, I facilitated professional development meetings for staff. We also met weekly as a team to discuss making and implementing goals for the school, curriculum decisions, perform walk through observations and provide feedback and support to staff. During my last year at my previous school, I collaborated with the Director of the Community Learning Center (CLC) on creating an anti-bullying event for our school. We also collaborated with the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team to create an event that worked within the parameters that were already established in our school.
