This was my first senior management role. I led a team of 15 inspectors and a complaints team. Responsible for registering and inspecting, children homes, nurseries, childminders and residential homes for adults. Created more clarity on our enforcement role, whilst balancing this with an enabling ethos. Also had strategic responsibility for the statutory complaints procedure. Favorite project, was introducing teleworking to the team. Reduced our office space by 50%, created a really great working environment with drop in areas and hot desks. My ethos was to provide a really flexible working environment and lifestyle. If you preferred writing a report at 2am, that's fine. Just deliver. And they did!

This was the job that really defined me. I became the Complaints Manager, responsible for the statutory procedures for Adult and Children Social Care. I was the lead on developing best practice, ensuring quality resolutions and lesson were learnt from the complaints with handled. I was part of the regional and national complaints groups, which provided me great experience of working at a strategic role, with other local authorities and the Department for Health.Key successes included being one of the first to introduce mediation into our process.
