Researched Orphan Drug laws and legislations in countries worldwide, focusing on the incentives and features of legislations. Corresponded with disease experts to write entries for the Genetic Alliance Journal of Disease Reviews, a project to give consumers access to medical information about genetic diseases. Helped to audit and prepare tools (patient surveys and online programs) for the Genetic Alliance Biobank, a patient-centric registry to help promote genetic disease research.

Masters Thesis Research: Developed an assay to sort out cells based on a change in phenotype to identify underlying genetic causes. We isolated male human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) to have a cell population to study. Once activated and expanded in culture, we exposed cells to a chemical selection to see if surviving cells would have mutations of functional significance. With the selected cells, performed PCR, Sanger, and 454 deep sequencing of exons for a specific gene (HPRT1) involved in the phenotype of chemical resistance.Undergraduate Research Assistant: Performed genome-wide analysis studies of patients with Hirschsprung disease. Helped to design a study to help reveal the genetic basis of syndromic Hirschsprung disease by using Copy Number Variations (CNVs) from DNA Microarray data. Analyzed data using computational methods such as R and performed validation of CNVs with quantitative PCR.

Editorial staff of the longest consecutively-running weekly independent college newspaper. Approximately 15 hours per week are spent on production of the newspaper, with an additional magazine edition which is published on a bi-monthly basis. Programs used for layout purposes include InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Bridge.

Contributed to a 3-year study of tropospheric ozone, specifically its effect on local vegetation. Over the course of three months, constructed and maintained the Langley Research Center on-site garden of common plant species and ozone data collectors. Additionally, tested reliability of portable ozone monitoring equipment for educational use and submitted these results to NASA and the original manufacturers
