Coalhouse Walker Jr In RagtimeCharing Cross Theatre And The Players Bar And Kitchen Oct 2016 - Dec 2016Following the critically acclaimed, sell out production of Titanic, Thom Sutherland, Artistic Director of the Charing Cross Theatre directs a new production of Ragtime, playing for a strictly limited season. It is the turn of the 20th Century in New York. An era is exploding. A century is spinning. And the people are moving in rhythm and rhyme to the music of Ragtime. Based on the novel by E.L Doctorow, Ragtime weaves together the story of three groups in America, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr, a Harlem musician; Mother and her white, middle class family in New Rochelle; and Tateh, a Jewish immigrant who has come to America with his daughter seeking a new life. Their fictional lives become dramatically intertwined with one another as well as with historical figures including Harry Houdini, Booker T. Washington, JP Morgan and Henry Ford.Ragtime led the 1998 Tony Awards with 12 nominations, winning 4 including Best Book by Terrence McNally and Best Original Score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. -
Reggie Wells In The Trial Of Jane FondaPark Theatre Jul 2016 - Sep 20161972. North Vietnam: Driven to halt the slaughter of young lives, iconic movie star Jane Fonda travels to Vietnam where she is photographed laughing and clapping, astride an anti-aircraft gun, the sole purpose of which is to shoot down American planes. Overnight the soldiers’ sexy pin-up becomes ‘Hanoi Jane’; traitor to her country and betrayer of those very young men.1988. Waterbury, Connecticut: Bitter demonstrations by veterans halt filming on a movie co-starring Fonda and Robert De Niro. Determined to stop her past dictating her future, Jane requests a meeting and enters a room full of angry men for whom the war still rages. The content of the meeting is never divulged.Having retraced Fonda’s steps in Vietnam, interviewed her guides and interpreters, dozens of veterans and Fonda herself, Terry Jastrow’s powerful drama conjectures the battles which were fought in that encounter, battles which are as much to do with the ability of recorded images to dictate our memories as they are to do with truth.Cast includes Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner, Anne Archer (Fatal Attraction; Patriot Games; Clear and Present Danger) as Jane Fonda. -
Captain James MeadowBeyond The Fence At The Arts Theatre West End Feb 2016 - Mar 2016Arts TheatreBeyond the Fence is conceived by computer and substantially crafted by computer. It is modelled on a statistical study of the ‘recipe for success’ in hit musicals. This ground-breaking process is being filmed for a Sky Arts TV series titled ‘Computer Says Show’, chronicling this unique experiment (to be broadcast in spring 2016). In collaboration with leading experts in music, computation and the science of human creativity, composer Benjamin Till and his husband, writer and actor, Nathan Taylor, the award winning team behind ‘Our Gay Wedding: The Musical’ (Channel 4), will bring a whole range of computer-generated material to life, presiding over the creation of an emotionally powerful and exciting West End show which is at the same time the grandest of experiments. That experiment has been designed and co-ordinated by Dr Catherine Gale, who also produces and directs the series. - See more at: http://beyondthefencemusical.com/about-the-show#sthash.uYSw1dtF.dpuf
