Iganga, Uganda

Carried out school hand-washing activities and conducted preliminary research on tippy tap usage in the community to assess UVP’s hygiene and sanitation program. Organized a focus group to understand the community’s thoughts and critiques of UVP’s tippy tap program. Collected baseline data on the nutritional knowledge and practices of mothers. Used this data to develop a nutrition program that UVP could implement throughout their healthy villages program.

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Analyzed food safety and quality guidelines with the new produce rule proposed by the Food Safety and Modernization Act through a side-by-side comparison. Presented the results of the comparisons for the development of their own food safety standards and for comments sent to FDA. Helped design and edit reports including topics such as risky meat and antibiotic resistance in food animals. Attended conferences and meetings addressing important topics of interest such as disaster management and food policy in the U.S.
