Taught ESL classes to the community, and GED and post secondary classes to inmates at the Dakota County Jail.

Stillwater,Mn

Taught adult basic education (ABE) classes to inmates in the Stillwater, Oak Park Heights, and Lino Lakes Prisons. The classes were designed to improve basic literacy and math skills of the inmates, and prepare them for GED testing.

Taught Social Studies courses at The High School Diploma Center, which is a school specifically designed for adults who did not finish high school and wish to earn their diploma. Developed and accomodated curriculum that fit the individual needs of every student. Worked with a talented staff to improve our students' Minnesota state test scores in reading and math, by integrated curriculum across the board. Advised students in their plans for graduation.

Wrote curriculum and prepared lesson plans at the Alternative Learning Center, which is a school that welcomes students that are considered "at risk". Engaged various learning styles with a variety of teaching methods, including portfolios, group learning, technology, hands on projects, service learning, tests, recitations, oral reports, individual and group presentations, and journaling. Evaluated and communicated student progress with other professionals, and developed learning plans for each student, based on individual abilities and needs. Served as an advisor to a group of students allowing me to work with them on a more personal level, help them plan for graduation, link them with resources, and serve as a support to increase their chances of graduating.

Taught Social Studies classes to at-risk students in grades 7-12. Employed the latest education approaches and incorporated current events, cultural activities, and other social topics into the curriculum. Served on the Board of Directors, and helped make decisions about the direction and future of the school, employee hiring, event planning, and the budget.

Jr. High Alternatives & Ramsey Fine Arts Magnet

Taught Social Studies, Reading, and elective courses to 150 7th & 8th grade students. Utilized the diversity of ESL, at risk, gifted, and inner city students in the same classroom, to enrich the material. Created and implemented curriculum that Integrated fine arts, current events, and global studies. Planned and organized extra-curricular activities such as tutoring programs, graduation, and the 8th grade trip to Chicago. Designed and built sets for two theater productions, and accompanied the Ramsey choir on piano.

Counseled adult mental health residents in a 21 day respite center. Interviewed residents in the intake process, and worked with mental health professionals to develop treatment plans for the residents. Answered an emergency crisis line and collaborated with local police, mental health hospitals, and the Department of Children and Family Services to meet the needs of the callers. Served as a community resource for people in immediate crisis.

Led a group of at risk youth in various landscaping projects around Minneapolis as part of a summer youth employment program. Taught youth English as a second language, reading, math, and social studies classes as part of their work program.
