About Akshay Nagarajan

My research focuses on creation of educational tools for Data and AI literacy using robotics, sound exploration and other tangible interactive media. We are rapidly moving towards becoming a data and AI driven society and I believe data and AI literacy are critical for the advancement of marginalized rural communities in developing economies. For over 5 years I was involved in setting up school makerspaces and designing curriculum for teaching maker skills, design thinking and robotics in rural and tribal schools in India. Before that I led a team that developed learning technologies and vocational training simulators using haptics and virtual reality. Our training simulators are being used to train personnel in the construction industry and deployed to train over 300,000 rural women in India.
