Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs in Baghdad, Iraq. I was exposed to the business world from a young age. I knew that I must join the business industry.I joined Zain Cash (part of Zain Group telecoms) working with the operations team, as there were limited job opportunities in Iraqi market in 2016, especially in marketing & sales.I had the golden opportunity to work for Careem in July 2018 (Careem is a tech company acquired by Uber for 3.1 billion dollars in 2019, the biggest acquisition deal made in the middle east). Working as a Social Media Executive was a turning point for my career. I reported directly to Iraq’s general manager, he set high expectations. He challenged me, and I was up for that challenge. At Careem we worked as one team, we worked on annual and quarterly planning sessions together. I find it hard to summarize my work at Careem in one page, but it can be found in Careem Iraq’s marketing campaigns, social media accounts, from setting the social media strategy in Iraq, to working on multiple marketing campaigns. Every six months during my five years at Careem, I was always one of the highest performers in Iraq during promotion cycles. Yes, I was the right person, in the right place. My manager empowered me to be part of Careem’s brand task force, responsible for conceptualizing the 2020 global brand campaign in MENA. I was the youngest, with the least years of experience marketer in this taskforce. Yet, my creative concept was selected out of nine proposals, leading to the successful launch of the Careem Super App campaign across the middle east in 2022. This was my biggest achievement as an executive, and I led the brand & communication in Iraq as the marketing manager, responsible for creating effective marketing campaigns, GTM plans, and owning product marketing in Iraq, managing my team in Iraq. I also had the opportunity to impart my knowledge through training sessions at KAPITA, training & mentoring the future marketers in Iraq.My goal as a marketer as to build a marketing campaign that would change habits of millions, this is the greatest legacy any marketer would dream of.
