Cervical cancer screening is most effective when performed within a highly organized setting. Quality assurance and –control as well as implementation of national guidelines are essential for achieving a balans between a maximum reduction of cancer and a minimum of unintended negative side-effects. Monitoring and evaluation of guidelines are essential in this context. Besides that, implementation of new tests or procedures should be evidence-based. My research focuses on the one side on process evaluation for optimizing the various parts of the screening process and on the other side on research of accuracy and effectiveness of new techniques and methods in cervical cancer screening. Examples are computer-assisted screening, triage of low-grade cervical abnormalities with molecular markers, quality assurance of the screening process with rapid prescreening and the development of instruments and indicators for process evaluation
