Emergency Communications Officer (Eco)
CurrentThe Edmonton Police Service is moving towards a civilianized emergency communication centre. After 26 years of service as a sworn member, I transitioned to being a civilian ECO. My duties involve answering the myriad of emergency and non-emergency calls that are placed to the Edmonton Police Service on a daily basis. I evaluate the need for police response, collect the pertinent information to mitigate the risks to officers and the public and garner details that will enhance the possibilities of suspect apprehension. This work is facilitated through the use of numerous software applications that one would expect in a modern emergency services environment. I have advanced myself within this work group by becoming a Communications Training Officer, Emergency Dispatcher and Operations Controller. I primarily fulfill the dispatch role in the centre at this time.
