As CTO, I’m responsible for our award winning ICE Enterprise Insurance Suite, comprising of Claims, Policy Administration and Analytics.The ICE suite of products have been architected using a blend of the latest technologies and software development processes to produce a rich, robust, enterprise grade insurance solution.ICE is modular and extensively configurable using ICE Workbench. The platform delivers back office applications along with intermediary, affinity and customer portals supporting phone, tablet and desktop. ICE has graphical Business Process Modelling, SOA architecture and an extensive library of ESB components delivering integration to industry standard and bespoke data sources.Quality is paramount. We invest heavily in continuous integration, automated testing and automated delivery techniques throughout the software build, test and deployment lifecycle.We work collaboratively with our clients to deliver next generation insurance platforms.

As CTO, I was tasked to design and build a greenfield enterprise insurance policy administration system for a charter client.This initially involved spending 11 months producing a suite of design documents and UML models for the various system components whilst concurrently directing a number of technical PoC prototypes. The Product “Workbench” is an Eclipse RCP application using Camel, CFX and Subversion.The main application is an enterprise class web application architected using Java 1.6, Groovy, Spring 3 (DI, Tx, Security, Batch, MVC), Hibernate, Atomikos, Activiti, GWT 2.3, Guice, Gin, Camel, CFX, Quartz, FuseSource/ServiceMix with significant assistance from: Maven, TestNG, Mockito, DbUnit and Jenkins, amongst others.The majority of my time through the main spike of the build was spent leading a team (of predominantly contractors) with an agile approach. The latter stages allowed me to take a more hand-on role.

I was asked to join IT Freedom in 2004 by Andrew and Mick (founders) to architect a new enterprise, insurance claims solution. This was a green field development, initially for a single motor third party administrator, but with the expectation that we would create a configurable product to satisfy the varied lines of business and processes demanded throughout the industry.Initially, with a development team of just 2, we created a technical framework leveraging many of the emerging open source components that are now commonplace in java enterprise web applications. Delivery of v1 was achieved in 9 months. With a growing team and client base, we added functional and technical enhancements to the product to deliver what is now considered to be the leading claims application in the UK.As the technical architect on the project, I was responsible for the design and build of the software and the development team. I was also involved with most of the client facing analysis and technical pre/post sales work.
