Project: Los Angeles Metro Purple Line ExtensionProject manager and Engineer of Record for The Los Angeles County Metro Westside Purple Line Extension, Sections 2 and 3. Section 2 of this design-build project extends approximately 4.5-km from Wilshire/La Cienega Station in Beverly Hills to Wilshire/Rodeo and Century City/Constellation Stations along with two parallel tunnels. Section 3 includes additional 4.5 km from Constellation Station to Westwood/UCLA and VA Hospital Stations. The scope of work included ground improvement, building protection, design, and construction support of 4 underground stations and entrances (Rodeo, Constellation, UCLA and VA Stations) with cut-and-cover method. The underground Constellation Station is approximately 372 m long, 23 m wide and nearly 25 m deep under the ground. This station incorporates an upper-level concourse for ticketing and a 140 m-long loading platform. Westwood/UCLA and VA Stations are also design-build projects as part of Section 3 Purple Line Extension with similar size and complexity of Constellation Station with total cost of $2.4 B.Responsibilities as technical director, QC Lead, and Engineer of Record included management of the analysis, design and construction support of Constellation, Westwood/UCLA, and VA underground stations at L.A Metro Purple Line Sections 2 & 3 and corresponding above ground facilities. Design of the underground stations included comprehensive nonlinear seismic analysis incorporating soil structure interaction using FLAC3D and LS-DYNA software.Project: California Highspeed Rail Authority, Madera-Fresno Construction Package 1 ICE/ISEQC review for the design of various structures in support of independent checking engineer (ICE) and independent site engineer (ISE) services to the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA). This $1 billion design-build contract is to construct the first 29-mile section of the new California High-Speed Rail system between Madera and Fresno, CA.

The Doha Metro system, one of the world's largest infrastructure project, is a multi-billion dollar state-of-the-art integrated rail network. This project will be built in two phases with an estimated cost of $36 bn. The construction of the first phase includes three out of the four lines (Red, Gold, and Green) covering 84 km and 37 stations. This phase also includes two major underground stations, i.e. Msheireb and Education City Stations, with a construction cost of $1.2 bn. Msheireb station is the hub for Metro network and features an extravagant entrance shelter as a landmark. It marks the crossing of three metro lines with the Red and Green Lines running parallel and the Gold Line situated underneath. The deep foundation of the Station is supported over 350 piles. 12 TBMs out of 21, with 7.0 m in diameter, had break-through at this station. Msheireb station is also integrated with above high-rises located in the heart of Doha. The future phase involves the introduction of an additional line (Blue) and the expansion of the existing ones, with more than 60 additional stations.In charge of management of design process for metro underground major stations and tunnel-interfaces as well as construction support to ensure that works are compliant with contract requiremens, standards, and specifications for a constructible and coordinated effort that meets the schedule. Performed an advisory role on technical issues related to design management, reviews, and procedures as well as resolving problems rising during construction work. Liaised between design and construction team and provide strong support for other disciplines such as Planning, QualityControl, etc. Developed Engineering Management Plan, Gap Analysis, Review of Method Statements, RFIs, FCRs, NCRs, etc.

The scope of work for this world-class development in Kuwait included the consultancy services for study, design, upgrade, and construction supervision for Jahra Road Project in Kuwait. This project, with construction cost of nearly $1 billion, included 17 km of precast segmental bridge (cantilever method) with expressway standards.Managed the structural supervision team and reviewed Contractor’s major structural submittals, including shop drawings, method statements, calculations, reports, and manuals as well as other key information concerning materials, equipment, and proposed procedures for use in casting, erection, and pre-stressing of segments. Reviewed details of the proposed precasting yard including location, layout, casting cells, storage areas, geometry control stations, etc. Reviewed details of the schedule submitted by the contractor regarding the sequence of casting and erection. Performed advisory role for structural engineers in approval process of structural submittals. Assessed value engineering proposals, design modifications, changes to viaduct erection methods and sequencing, and other variations proposed by the Contractor. Carried out regular site visits for all structural construction work completed by the contractor to ascertain compliance with drawings, specifications, contract documents, and to meet schedule. Reviewed and recorded all work regarded as non-conforming. Managed site inspections and developed alternative concepts to resolve day-to-day construction issues. Attend meetings with the Client, Contractor, and supervision team in Kuwait.

Selected Project: Seismic evaluation of downtown San Diego Courthouse. This project included 3 buildings ranging from three to seven stories with shear walls and composite gravity system. Comprehensive finite element analyses were performed to evaluate the deficiencies and demand capacities of seismic resistant elements, and provided rehabilitation methods.

Selected Project: Structural evaluation of the cable-stayed bridge at Burlington, Iowa US Route 34 over the Mississippi River, for the vertical cracks in 374-ft tall tower legs. The project included extensive investigation of the cracked concrete tower and shaft load capacities using finite element models, determination of the overall nature of the cracks and appropriate retrofit measures.

Selected Project: Analyzed and detail designed a multipurpose aircraft hangar with 550 ft free span, 656 ft length, 656 ft width and 100 ft height, to accommodate and maintain four Boeing 747 airplanes. This hangar consisted of a concrete shop as the core and large span space trusses for the hangar part with heavy cranes for airplane maintenance.
