Within the project “Concepts of Natural Gas Trade Between EU and Russia”, ‎in cooperation with the Institute for Energy and Finance (IEF, Russia) and EU-‎Russia Gas Advisory Council GAC, which aims to participate in the EU-Russia ‎dialogue on the ‎role of Russian gas in the future energy system in the EU; and ‎as a representative of TEMAPLAN; my main achievements are:‎ Developing a modelling framework of the EU energy system ‎according to ‎the main goals and scenarios of the EU ‎commission. ‎ Building a model ‎that investigates the EU energy system until 2030, using ‎the linear programming tool MESSAGE Analysing ‎the scenarios and comparing them according to the energy ‎market variations, investment, demand, environmental impacts, policies and ‎social drivers. ‎ Analysing the existing and candidate technologies in the EU, focusing on ‎the competition between renewable and natural gas technologies.‎ Developing the energy demand model ECHO, based on MAED structure, ‎for analysing the demand side sectors.‎ Reconstructing, using MESSAGE, the EU-Roadmap 2050 scenarios made ‎with ‎PRIMES, liaising with the EU commission. ‎

Energy strategy planning senior consultant, Vienna, Integriertes Resourecen Management (IRM). Activities:• “Developing the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Energy Sector Strategy”. The project was initiated by Asian Development Bank (ADB) to analyze the future investments in the energy sector in the Mekong seven countries (including two provinces in the south of China). (Vienna, IRM)• “Long-term Energy-Economy-Environment (E3) scenarios for the Plan Puebla Panama (PPP) countries” The project was initiated by Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) (Vienna, IRM).• “Supporting Energy Planning in the Silesia Region/Poland with a Formal Model” (Vienna, IRM)

Assisting in updating training materials for future courses by developing guidelines for modeling of various parts of the energy infrastructure using MESSAGE. Assisting in developing the e-Learning material.

Research Scholar, Greenhouse Gas Initiative Project (GGI) and Environmentally Compatible Energy Strategies (ECS) Program, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Laxenburg, Austria (Link).Activities:• Improving the MESSAGE global model, that was built in IIASA to covers 11 regions of the world in a time frame up to 2100, by analyzing sustainable energy developing policies for the implementation of mitigation strategies.• Developing and applying downscaling methodology on the Former Soviet Union (FSU), to split it into three regions in order to analyze natural-gas trade between former FSU countries. • Analyzing historical energy trends for the 11 regions of the global model. Downscaling the final energy consumption of the IIASA regions to the country level (185 countries).• Calibrating the global model year 2000 to match the real data, since the model was built with a base year 1990.• Training the new energy modelers on using MESSAGE.

• Developing a new version of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) tool “Model for the Analysis of Energy Demand (MAED)”. Damascus &Vienna 2004; • Regional integrated planning of Middle East countries by optimizing the national interconnected energy systems and assessment of their environmental impacts, using MESSAGE and MAED.• Integrated resources planning and energy management in Syria, considering the role of the nuclear energy in the future energy system, in cooperation with IAEA.
