Dr. Alaa Hamed is a seasoned health professional with over 40 years of experience in health and human development in the Middle East and Africa. He is a medical doctor with a Master and Doctorate Degrees in Public Health. He has expertise in health operations, policy dialogue, technical assistance for advisory services and analytics, and program/ project management across areas of public health, health systems, pandemic preparedness, nutrition, population and social protection. He has held senior roles at the World Bank and UNICEF and advisory role for Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance Authority and the Ministry of Finance. During his period in the Bank, he was the Team Leader for Egypt, Yemen and Sudan. He also served as a medical doctor in Egypt’s Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Organization. He is focused on approaches to improve the design and implementation of health operations, to achieve health equity and to engage the private sector in health systems to achieve universal health coverage. He is currently a Senior Advisor for the Ministry of Finance engaged in management of development assistance of health operations in Egypt. He also is engaged as a Temporary Advisor to the Advisory Groups for WHO Geneva on governance of the private sector.
