- Was responsible for managing the winter internship in my team, which involved planning the program and the scope of work, being the supervisor for the intern during the program, breaking down the tasks and doing the technical analysis, and facilitating the work through coordinating with other teams.- Worked on modernizing the infrastructure of multiple internal micro-services. The modernization involved migrating the service to Kubernetes, changing the overall infrastructure to be more scalable, changing the Docker base image, upgrading the PHP version from 7.x to 8.1 along with its extensions, and upgrading Symfony version from 2.x/3.x to 5.4. The process also included some service-specific refactoring, like using AWS S3 storage and/or RabbitMQ to allow for parallel processing of data. Worked closely with the DevOps team to deploy the service on the testing servers and production.- Worked on streaming SQL database events to Elasticsearch through Kafka. A Kafka Connect instance with an SQL source connector and an Elasticsearch sink connector is used to establish the end-to-end connection. Different design decisions were evaluated and load testing was performed to create a reliable and scalable system.- Worked on refactoring and extending a micro-service that is responsible for integrating with third-party service providers and importing data to our system. Implemented PHP commands for syncing data after applying the proper data mapping between the two systems.- Improved the efficiency and latency of data syncing by introducing webhooks to sync data in real-time (instead of using Linux supervisors to run PHP commands that sync all data on a daily basis). Syncing latency dropped from hours (and sometimes days!) to a few minutes using the new solution.- Actively participate in code reviews and technical refinement.

- Worked on adding features to a Python-based Slack Chatbot that is responsible for inquiring about the state of a Kubernetes cluster (active-pods/deployments/status, .. etc), scaling the system, and deploying new features.- Created a Bash script that creates, configures, and runs a replicated mockup Kubernetes environment.- Added policy management using OPA for running chatbot commands on the cluster, and created a Flask web server and a MongoDB database to get admins’ approvals through email for executing privileged commands.- Automated the process of running scripts against data files from an S3 bucket inside a Docker container through a chatbot command. The chatbot checks for permissions, gets admins’ approvals if needed, executes the command, and prints the output back to the user in the chat.

- Developed software components in React Native for Android and iOS, refactored code, and participated in peer review.- Took part in the agile sprint planning and software design activities.

- Worked in a team of six on developing a machine-learning-based routing algorithm in dynamic unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) networks to minimize the overall delay and adapt to changes in the network topology.- Implemented a reinforcement learning routing algorithm in Python, used MATLAB to obtain the optimum, non real-time solution using a branch & bound solver, and compared it to our real-time algorithm.
