Dr. Alaa Husni Qari, BDS, CAGS, DScD., is Award-Winning International Leader and Entrepreneur in Teledentistry and Public Health. She leads various projects locally and internationally to advance the dental field and improve dental care access for patients in Saudi Arabia. She completed a residency in Geriatric Dental Medicine at Boston University where she also received her doctoral degree in Dental Public Health with a concentration in Health Communication and Promotion.Dr. Qari is Assistant Professor of Dental Public Health, and expert in teledentistry, intervention planning and applying user-centered design principles in developing health technologies. She is Chair of the Teledentistry Unit at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) in Makkah Saudi Arabia, and Co-Chair of the International Committee at the American Mobile and Teledentistry Alliance (AMTA) in the USA. She is an UNLEASH alumni, which is a global innovation lab, where she worked on a scalable solution project to the Health Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) of the United Nations.She established the teledentistry unit in 2021 within the dental curriculum of UQU where she trains future dentists and faculty and leads all her current academic, research and community projects in teledentistry and public health. Her work has been acknowledged in AMTA review report “The Top Events in Dental Care Delivery for 2021.” Dr. Qari’s research, awarded the First Place for the Leverett Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Public Health in 2020, is focused on assessing the quality of mobile dental apps.
