My name is Alaina Driscoll, and I am a senior at North Dakota State University. I will graduate in the Spring of 2022 with a double bachelor of science degree in Physical and Health Education and a double minor in Psychology and Honors. I currently have a 4.0 GPA.I came to NDSU with a passion for involvement and helping others. I was Valedictorian (1rst out of my 78-person class) in high school. My entire town population was about the size of my NDSU freshman class (2,000 students). Fargo opened my eyes to many things, to name a few, diversity, inclusion, social and emotional learning, and the possibility of multiple elementary schools in one town! Within the first year of attending NDSU, I volunteered at many walk-a-thons in the Fargo-Moorhead community gaining direct experience with students and physical education teachers. I also joined organizations on campus. Starting my freshman year, I joined the Bison Cheer team, Bison Ambassadors, Human Sciences and Education (HSE) Ambassadors, and Bison guide. I was also involved in my church joining a bible study and small groups at the Newman Center.As a part of Bison guide and HSE Ambassadors, I make an impact on campus by helping prospective students tour NDSU. I have also been apart of many virtual and in-person college of Human Sciences and Education recruitment days where I help to advocate for our profession and talk about the hands-on experiences we have in the classroom. For the past two years, I have also worked at the NDSU Wellness Center teaching group fitness classes such as HIIT and Bogafit. Bogafit is my favorite class to teach and involves doing exercises on blow-up paddleboards in the water (you can YouTube it). I got my AFAA Group fitness certification two summers ago and have enjoyed learning more about the principles of conditioning and teaching strategies to help enhance my teaching in the future. This will help me to be a more confident teacher. These classes are also all “free” (meaning included within student fees) therefore any NDSU student can go to any group fitness class. I am proud to be a part of offering these classes to students as I believe that many college students come to college and do not know how to properly exercise and these group fitness classes are a great resource!Currently, I am a Learning Assistant in Dr. Linker’s sophomore-level curriculum class. I enjoy helping students and have learned a great deal about teaching and curriculum content. I strive to be a leader inside and outside of the classroom and upon graduation hope to work in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
