About Alaina Herrera
I graduated from Northwest Career and Technical Academy with advanced high honors and a workplace readiness certificate. While attending Northwest I majored in Media Communications which included learning video production, news writing and editing, and photography. I was an active member in the Filmmakers Society, National English Honor Society, and I was a board member for the Journalism Club. I also participated in Student Government in middle school and high school. I eventually got active in the State and National Student Government Organizations. While in high school I also worked with the Cinderella Scholarship Organization. I participated and competed in pageants all around the country. I got the privilege to hold the title of Nevada State Cinderella Teen. In this position I got to travel around the state and help with preliminary pageants as well as volunteer in my community in various different ways. After receiving my title I got the chance to move onto the international level. I ended up getting 3rd alternate to the overall crown and 1st runner up to best talent. Now I am attending Southern Utah University full time, with a major Media Communications and a minor in Photography and Political Science. I also hold a position as a Presidential Ambassador. I get to dedicate my time to my school work and also recruiting other students to attend SUU. I spent my sophomore year with the Presidential Ambassadors as a Financial Aid and Scholarship Education (FASE) Ambassador. At the conclusion of that yearly position I was elected to be the Vice President of Financial Aid and Scholarship Education. I continue to show my love and support at SUU by becoming involved in the athletic department by holding the position of Assistant Athletic Event Coordinator.

After my first year as a FASE Ambassador, I was elected to be a part of the Executive Council as the Vice President of Financial Aid and Scholarship Education for the 2023-2024 school year. While holding this position, I have gotten the opportunity to advance my team management skills as I am responsible for motivating and keeping the FASE Ambassadors on track throughout the school year. I eagerly host one-on-one appointments with prospective students and their families to help them understand our estimated cost of attendance and come up with a plan to pay for college. I have gone through extensive training in higher education financial aid including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. I attend FAFSA nights at local high schools to help students and parents fill out the FAFSA and learn more about financial aid.

I am solely responsible for the Ushers that work at our events. I also help with the coordination and and planning of the home athletic events at the university.

After my first year as a PA, I was selected to be a FASE Ambassador. In this position, I got to continue my focus on recruiting students while also assisting them with financial aid opportunities. I went through the FERPA training as well as learned everything there is to know about FAFSA, SUU academic merit scholarships, SUU Organizational and Departmental Scholarships, and Private Scholarships. I got training on how to use the Admissions Checklist and Slatel. I was given the task of calling, texting, and emailing students and their parents to assist them with their financial aid questions and concerns. I visited high schools in Southern Utah and Las Vegas for FAFSA nights throughout the year. I got to educate them on the amazing opportunities at SUU and how to make paying for college an achievable goal for students and their families. At the end of my time in this position, I was awarded the FASE Ambassador of the Year.

For a summer job, I lived and worked in Pahrump, Nevada, at a restaurant on a golf course. I started out as a hostess and a busser. Within two weeks of working there, I was promoted to waitress. I got to hone my customer service skills and also learn food safety procedures. I also assisted in setting up and planning events that were hosting in our event space.

Downtown Summerlin Holiday And Halloween Parade Cast Member
After going through a rigorous audition and interview process, I was cast in the Downtown Summerlin Holiday Parade twice and the Halloween Parade of Mischief once. I was cast as a reindeer for two years for the Holiday Parade. Also as the main character, Maleficent, for the Halloween Parade of Mischief. While getting to perform in the parade on the weekends, I also got to help with community events. As an example, I got the opportunity to assist in granting a child’s wish for the Make a Wish Foundation.
