About Alan Henry

Alan has spent the last 8 years leading Rockall Research, which provides a wide range of research and technical services to the marine renewables sector and the wider marine industry. Alan previously has 7 years experience working in a dynamic commercial environment for a new technology developer. He has strong project management skills with a history of executing work programmes and delivering on time. He is an excellent communicator having successfully collaborated with various academic and industry partners on a wide range of projects.BackgroundOn obtaining a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University of Belfast Alan Henry joined the Wave Power Research Group at Queen’s University to study for his PhD under the supervision of Prof Trevor Whittaker. His research focused on the hydrodynamics of the Oscillating Wave Surge Converter.During his PhD, Aquamarine Power Ltd. was created to develop the Oscillating Wave Surge Converter concept commercially and is now known as Oyster®. Alan joined Aquamarine Power Ltd. in January 2009 after his PhD and became a Senior Research Engineer working on various aspects of the development of Oyster, such as performance and loading. Alan founded Rockall Research in 2015 to support developers in the marine renewables industry. Since then he has worked with a wide range of technology developers, academic institutions and state bodies.Experience and Interests
