My interest in neurodegenerative disease research arises from my experiences at the Telias Lab and REGENXBIO Inc. My work at the Telias Lab has promoted my understanding of various biomedical assays which are utilized to develop the understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind diseases characterized by photoreceptor degeneration. This academic research approach has driven to me seek opportunities in biotechnology, and at REGENXBIO Inc, I have conducted various in vitro/in vivo assays to test the efficacy of AAV-therapeutics in models of dry age-related macular degeneration. This experience has promoted my understanding of drug discovery and drives me to seek further opportunities in biotechnology. Additionally, as a prospective graduate student, I aim to bridge the perspective differences between academic and industry research in my graduate work by seeking out opportunities for collaboration between biotechnology companies and academic institutions. Moreover, I aim to pursue a career which will integrate such perspectives and tackle neurodegenerative disease with a translational approach.
