Under the general supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Superintendent, this position operates the Power Plant as the only employee on shift, functions independently during periods when the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds is not available and performs other maintenance duties as assigned.Operate the Power Plant alone on an around-the-clock basis with no supervision on evenings, nights or weekends. Use emergency Power Plant operation procedures. Fire gas and oil boilers to assure maximum efficiency. Adjust boiler controls to provide steam and pressure according to load demands. Operate the boiler auxiliary equipment, i.e., water pumps, steam condensers. Keep records required on the shift on proper forms for steam production, water production and amount of fuel consumed, etc. Perform chemical water treatment and water testing on all boiler water with the plant. Regenerate water softeners to assure the proper water condition for boiler use. Adjust water and fuel feed systems, blowers and igniters used to start up and/or shut down boilers. Monitors the temperature, pressure and draft meters to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water system, and burners. Monitor boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions. Make repairs such as changing burner tips and tightening pipes and fittings. Monitor and operate emergency diesel generator during power outages to maintain heat to buildings and power to essential functions of the facility.

Ensure plant operates in a safe, efficient, and economical manner in accordance with design specifications, procedures and policies by facilitating operation of fossil fueled boilers and associated turbine/generator unit, combustion turbine and auxiliary equipment. Respond to plant emergencies and equipment failures as necessary. Write maintenance work requests and work orders for said equipment failures. Control Room OperatorMonitor plant parameters and take actions as necessary to maintain power plant in a safe and stable condition. Equipment monitored include synchronous condensers, stator water, hydrogen cooling, lube oil, air systems, electrical, emergency diesel generators, service water, spent fuel and radiation monitoring equipment.Successfully completed control room operator training. Passed all training including start-up and shutdown of synchronous condensers, parallel operation of emergency diesel generators and radiation monitoring equipment.
