Oxstalls Campus

Coordinating the running of a Sport England funded sports participation project for the University of Gloucestershire. We link to NGBs and offer various sports which run either within our 3 main campuses or within community settings. Higher Education Student Officers and Coaches facilitate the various sports and activities to engage students and staff to keep them actively involved with activity that provides potential pathways for all.

Oxstalls Campus & Park Campus

The University roles include managing the Sports Xtra Community Project, working on the UNIversal Sports Project and Coordinating the Wheelchair Rugby Outreach Programme with Gloucester Rugby Club. UNIversal sports development programme is designed to get more students and staff active. I currently work part-time on these various community outreach roles, linking to primary and secondary schools and other local settings. I manage activities supported by Sports Xtra, including running children's camps to empower our student coaches employability whilst running fun sports and activities for younger people. I also support Gloucester Wheelchair Rugby club. This includes community outreach work on behalf of the Wheelchair Rugby club, the University, GB Wheelchair Rugby and Gloucester Rugby Club. I have supported the All Golds Primary Schools Rugby League programme until November 2016.

Worcestershire & Herefordshire

This role included working with Golf Clubs in the areas of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Engaged with all 54 Golf Clubs and Driving Ranges in the areas with the main aim to build relationships with the clubs and more importantly the PGA professional coaches to support more people to get into golf.The role concentrated on Worcestershire clubs as the outlook for golf at that current time was challenging and the role attempted to bring people who have not tried golf into the clubs. I met some positive professionals within my time in post and although challenging to achieve targets it was a good experience to work closely and support the club professionals . The role was contracted part time alongside Primary School teaching.

Hartpury College

I taught the BTEC sports coaching and fitness to students between the ages of 16-20 years old. This also included leadership and volunteering opportunities utilising the Community Sports Leaders awards qualification. I also took the students into the schools and community settings to give them a real experience of coaching and people engagement to support them and ready them to apply to Universities if they so desired. Working with various NGB and School Games partners it was a challenging but rewarding role which was made more satisfying by the face to face contact and watching the students grow with confidence as they continued through the course.

Ribston School (Based)

Assistant Manager for the School Sports Partnership (SSP). This role was a real jump up to management with all the challenges and experiences which that brings. I still managed to include hand on coaching within the role in various activities. The role gave me a wide experience of event management and presentation skills to engage with many different agencies including National Governing Bodies, County Sports Partnerships, coaches and teachers in an effort to offer more sporting and educational activity within the schools and community. The role was well funded by government as part of their PE School Sport & Young People strategy so this came with the added experience of financial running of the SSP, completing applications from various funding pots which were taken within this assistant managing role to sustaining much of the activity offered. The roles aim supported young people to engage in all sporting activity from rock climbing to cheer-leading to find something to keep all active with an educational message.

Tewkesbury

This role carried out was a local authority generic Sports Development Officer. The role did have an emphasis on young people but included working with all people within the Tewkesbury Borough.The role included organising youth games, working with all schools, colleges and the local university to offer more sporting activity utilising an array of volunteers to succeed. The role was run on a limited budget with full support from the council. The role also engaged with local sports clubs, supporting them and linked them to funding to make activities more sustainable.

Cheltenham

Worked on a Sport England Active Communities Development Funded role as an outreach officer utilising Sport and Activity to support young people and to reduce anti-social behaviour within the 8-17 year old age group.Lots of community engagement utilising many agencies, national governing bodies and organisations in order to drive participation and engagement forward in an area of social and economic deprivation.This included a volunteer workforce from sports degree students from the University and local parents in order to engage and keep young people active.

Dorset

Supporting the PE department at the School/Sports College and the local feeder primary schools utilising sports and activities. The role was varied and built up a good relationship with other community facilities and the youth service to continue activity beyond the school gates. I also worked at the school boarding house to extend my duties at the Sports College. The establishment was led by a proactive Headteacher who understood the value of sport within education and within the community.

Across The Uk

I took my City And Guilds qualifications over three years and completed a full apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating with J.A.Hobbs Decorators and R.Preston Fine Decorations. I did gain young decorating awards as an apprentice. In 1988 I continued my progression to set up my own self-employed business.I did work generally as an interior decorator for 6 years on residential properties across the United Kingdom and built up a customer base over this time. I attended training workshops to work on fine decorating techniques to expand my skills and knowledge. Whilst self employed I did live and work in Australia for a year in 1989, then travelled and toured America in 1991, again in 1996 working as a mountain bike instructor and on a Children's Summer Camp until continuing on into higher education.
