I enjoyed absolutely NO aspect of this position. The unprofessional behaviour of certain "senior and junior officers including public servants"​, left a lot to be desired! Their behaviour saw many "fine experienced officers, with much experience undertaking "street work"​ under their belts, leave this organisation, due to what could only be described as "total mismanagement"​ and "poor morale"​. Member of "crash crew" for both airfield plus domestic fire fighting on each base stationed at. This included but was not limited to the extinguishing of engine fires, rescue of aircrew from aircraft in the event of a crash or any other other incident where a PAN or MAY DAY had been declared. The "emergency engine shut down procedures" for each type of A/C, rescue and egress of downed pilots/aircrew from aircraft as required including those aircraft equipped with "ejection seats" ensuring each seat was pinned prior to egress. After completing my recruit course, I volunteered for posting to the NW coast, Div 10 Burnie station. After a short time learning "how to work the streets"​, I then transferred to the 4 man station at Wynyard with a brief stint at the 1 man station at Somerset { relieving the officer while he was on leave } before joining NW Traffic control - Highway Patrol operating both "marked and unmarked"​ Police vehicles. Other support also provided included American and South Vietnamese Armies in the South Vietnam operational theatre. Countries/Cities visited included Japan ( Osaka and Kobe ), China ( Border from the Hong Kong side ), Okinawa ( Not sure if they consider themselves part of Japan or not ?, Guam, Manila, Subic Bay US Naval base, Tacloban ( civil riots and general armed unrest ) Marshall Island group, Hong Kong ( prior to handover to China ) Singapore and other areas as required plus duties in the FESR ( Far East Strategic Reserve ). Campaign Medals awarded: AASM 45-75 ( Australian Active Service Medal ) Clasp Vietnam, VLSM ( Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal ), ASM 45-75 ( Australian Service Medal ) Clasp FESR, NM ( National Medal ) ( For 15 or more years service in State and Federal Law enforcement post military engagements ) and ADM ( Australian Defence Medal ).
