Alan has over 50 years' experience in the industry and carries out geotechnical consultancy work on all aspects of building and civil engineering geotechnics specialising in slope stability, earthworks, landfill geotechnics and expert witness.

On the civil engineering training scheme I worked in all civil engineering departments (permanent way, bridge and new works) to gain the design and site experience necessay to obtain MICE. I completed my BR career with a year in the BR Research Department in Derby carrying out research into track related geotechnical problems.
