  • Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Pty Ltd
    Production Manager
Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Pty Ltd Jan 2011 - Present
    Penrith Lakes
Production Manager of the largest quarry in Australia for the last five years, with production due to cease at the end of September,2015. Have been responsible for safe production of 5million Tonnes per year of sand and gravel for the Sydney concrete market in 2010 to average of 3.5 MT over the last 2 years as raw feed supplies get exhausted. Have developed, maintained and audited various components of the Penrith Lakes Safety Management Plan resulting in zero LTI's over the last 5 years. I have overseen the adherence to environmental compliance conditions. I have been involved with supervision and management of construction of several large flood infrastructure projects in the last 4years. These include construction of a concrete 2 way weir in the north of the scheme and an innovative 420m long weir on the western side of the scheme. Innovative because it consisted of 1.6m steps of vinyl piles capped with 3m wide concrete slabs.First time it has been used in Australia. We have successfully installed 2 lots of flood outlet pipes to the river from 2 different lakes. We were able to do this by carefully managing at all times to maintain a barrier and the integrity of the river bank. We are in the process of finishing off construction of 2 flood flow path channels, including one with a bridge over it which residents will use as a flood evacuation route.I have been responsible for the construction from the shale floor up of toe lines that make up the landforms contained within the Penrith lakes scheme. The scheme itself is over 2000 hectares and encompasses a number of lakes including the Sydney International Regatta Centre, 2 recreational lakes, a wildlife lake and several feeder and detention lakes as well as a large wetland complex on the south of the scheme.

  • Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Pty Ltd
    Fine Sand Plant Manager
Penrith Lakes Development Corporation Pty Ltd Jul 1999 - Jan 2005
    Purcell'S Lane, Castlereagh
Initially I was Project Superintendent for the construction of a sand plant capable of producing 3/4 million tonnes per year of fine sand, utilising my civil engineering background skills. After the successful construction and testing phase, I developed the safe operating procedures for the plant within the Penrith Lake development Corporations safety management plan. I was responsible for all aspects of managing the plant from employing personnel to operate and maintain it, inducting and training them, running the fine sand stripping program and developing the customer base to confirm the economics of the project. I was able to get the plant to produce over 1 million tonnes per annum.
  • Boral Construction Materials
    Projects Manager
Boral Construction Materials Jan 1997 - Jun 1999
    Victoria Park And Prospect Quarry
Assisted with lay-out design, safe construction, management and eventual removal of a fine sand plant in the old Naval stores area at Victoria Park in southern Sydney. The plant took in fine sand raw feed as part of spoil from Leighton's Eastern Distributor construction site. The complexities of the operation included adhering to tight environmental conditions which saw waste fines removed by tanker to Prospect. I also co-ordinated the transport of all sandstone tunnel spoil from 5 load points along the Eastern distributor to Prospect Quarry utilising Boral transport and subbies on back load, a very efficient but complicated operation.
  • Boral Construction Materials

    Emu Plains Quarry
Manage all aspects of Boral's largest quarry in the Sydney metro area. Develop and maintain safe systems of work. Maintain production volumes and cost targets. Ensure compliance and reporting to all environmental conditions of our operating licence. keep the plant operating and maintained within budget or better.
  • Boral Construction Materials

Monitor and maintain the plant and production volumes within quality and cost constraints. Responsible for product quality control and customer liaison.
  • Boral Construction Materials
    Production Supervisor
Boral Construction Materials Dec 1990 - Jan 1992
    Emu Plains Quarry
Responsible for all aspects of production at the Emu Plains quarry, including meeting production volumes and quality specifications safely within our operating licence conditions. Worked closely with the Quarry manager and our General manager in managing a fairly militant workforce as we implemented a number of changes to production methods and process' to take advantage of fixed and mobile plant improvements. Co-ordinated plant maintenance requirements with the Maintenance manager so as to maintain required production volumes and quality.
  • Boral Construction Materials
    Project Superintendent
Boral Construction Materials Nov 1989 - Dec 1990
    Emu Plains Quarry
I supervised construction of the new bridge over the Nepean river and construction of a new 600tph crushing and screening plant within the Emu quarry site, ensuring both projects came on line within time and budget. The new bridge allowed us to go from a fleet of 20 35T belly dumpers to a fleet of 6 90 tonne rear dumpers, thereby giving significant production efficiencies and savings. The crushing plant also included changes to the existing wash plant increasing volumes through it by 35%.
  • Abigroup Ltd
    Construction Foreman/Supervisor
    Abigroup Ltd Oct 1986 - Sep 1989
    F3 Freeway Hornsby By-Pass Project
I set up the main project site office and compound located adjacent to the Kuringai Chase road bridge at Mt Colah, consisting of several demountable site offices, toilet and amenities blocks, storage compound and laboratory with attached office for the DMR representatives. I initially directed clearing, stripping, fencing and minor earthworks contractors until the site opened up. I then assisted in supervision of major earthmoving and drill and blast contractors, as well as being involved with supervising of concrete works. I had direct responsibility for the relocation and concrete encasement of 800m of the main North-West sewer carrier to strict Water Board specifications. Throughout the project I supervised a team of company labourers engaged on silt management, drainage, backfill, landscaping and site rehabilitation works, including final demobilisation operations.
  • Department Of Works And Supply

Department Of Works And Supply Jan 1984 - Jul 1986
Kundiawa, Chimbe Province, Papua New Guinea
Supervised up to 80 personnel involved in roads and bridges maintenance and construction activities. Situated in the rugged highlands of PNG, slope stability and drainage works were an issue. I directed 5 overseers who were responsible for supervising maintenance and construction activities within their areas as required. I had to train them in basic planning and budgeting and monitoring of specific projects. Periodically I organised and supervised campaign crushing activities in local gravel pits as road building material stock levels determined.
