My role at the Gallery is to provide high level leadership to the Gallery’s Facility & Building Services Unit. The position has primary responsibility for managing the development; strategic and operational of the Facilities Management Section at the National Portrait Gallery at King Edward Terrace PARKES. The role includes in line with the Gallery’s objectives the development of a strategic and operating framework to ensure the effective delivery of FM services, security services, and Work Health & Safety services in a purpose built and environmentally friendly gallery building to international museum standards.The role includes the development of long term strategies, policies and procedures which are integrated with the Gallery’s strategic plan to ensure the cost effective functionality of Gallery facilities. It includes the achievement of objective measures and key performance indicators agreed for the management of service delivery, Departmental compliance and statutory regulations. In addition to monitor and analyse industry developments and trends and seek to implement best practice processes in the facility management of the Gallery, and manage the Building Facilities team including mentoring and performance management and liaise effectively with Gallery staff across all sections and at all levels

1. Under limited direction, plan and manage building facilities under Library control including: • Undertake project management of a wide range of capital and life-cycle building works including refurbishment• Monitor and control budgets for agreed works program• Oversight staff responsible for building maintenance activities2. Recommend strategies for cost effective energy and facilities use, reviewing building management/maintenance practices as appropriate.3. Manage outsourced services provided by contractors, consultants and design professionals on behalf of the Branch in order to achieve satisfactory service delivery outcomes.4. Establish and maintain liaison and consultation with Library senior management, public and private sector agencies on issues relating to building management and planning.

Primary Focus:The Facilities Management Team Leader will focus on the effective management of Questacon’s facilities including: Asset life cycle planning and maintenanceFire and Emergency plans and associated training;Accommodation, planning and associated property;Vehicle and plant and equipment leasing;Building and access security;Energy reduction strategies; andGeneral building operations.Duties:Under limited direction manage the Facilities Management Team to achieve its objectives. Develop strategies to meet the agreed objectives of the Team.Responsible for asset life cycle planning and maintenance.Responsible for building operations, accommodation and property matters. Plan and implement fire and emergency procedures.Manage the facilities maintenance and building contractors, to ensure effective and efficient delivery or services against contracts.Develop budgets, monitor expenditure and financial commitments for the Team, prepare regular reports to the Questacon Leadership Team on capital works progress, and ongoing costs of the facilities maintenance plans and appropriate reports.Incorporate energy reduction strategies into the ongoing operations of the facilities, and regularly report on performance.Represent the Centre at meetings and in negotiations with other Departments and Contractors.
