The change in direction meant that due to a lack of investment and commitment from the owners, my role from 2002 became one of a service and account director.In 1998 sales reached 1.2 million and employed around 20 people.Position: Sales Manager 1986 – 1998Role: Prior to my position as Sales Director my role was sales manager. This was a hands-on position, liaising with the reprographics and plate making departments, taking briefs from clients and converting them into internal orders and involvement within the planning department to deliver the product to the clients expected delivery date.Position: Reprographics operative 1983- 1986Role: My position prior to sales manager was in reprographics. This involved all aspects of conventional origination from artwork, camera work, planning, colour separation and step and repeat. The role gave me a good all round understanding of pre-press and grounding to sell our products to the trade. My training period in reprographics was 3 years, agreed by the NGA.Position: Stereotyper / Plate maker 1980– 1983Role: I started out as the foundry auxiliary and after 18 months went on to serve a four year apprenticeship in plate making.At this time Advance Graphics had the patent on a product called the ‘Minute Mount’, this was a brass backed rubber plate. My apprenticeship also involved attending two college courses “BTEC in Printing Administration” and” City and Guilds 509 in Flexography” My apprenticeship covered all aspects of plate making from rubber stereos to photo polymer plates. Position: Rubber Engraver / StereotyperRole: Trained in hand engraving for 18 months, this involved producing Flexographic printing plates from sheet material; hand cutting the detail by hand. This also gave me an introduction into stereo typing (moulded rubber printing plates).
