As Director of R&D my role is to lead research and development, quality control and analytical services for 2 manufacturing sites in the specialty chemical division of CPS Performance Materials. This includes evaluating all new projects for technical fit, determine manufacturing capabilities required, selecting manufacturing site for projects, build manufacturing costing models for quoting, leading R&D and analytical team during the process development phase and maintaining project timelines for engineering. Additional Responsibilities:• Lead process transfer team that identifies products to transfer from overutilized to underutilized assets. • Manage a team of 10 chemists (R&D, QC and Analytical) across 2 manufacturing sites. • Manage the ISO 9001 QMS at the Palm Bay FL facility. • Responsible for hiring and ensure full training of all lab personnel.

As a Senior R&D Chemist my responsibilities were to develop processes for new incoming projects or currently manufactured products for cost reduction opportunities. This included developing analytical methods, writing SOP’s and training QC, writing project reports, leading the technology transfer to engineering process, and leading the process scale-up in production. Additional Responsibilities:• Took over ISO 9001 program and led conversion of ISO 9001:2015 from the 2008 standard. • Identify lab upgrades for enhanced customer offering and to increased productivity.

As both a Chemist III & IV at Albemarle I worked within the polyolefin catalyst team. My core responsibility was to develop complex multi-step organic/organometallic synthetic processes at bench scale then work with engineering team to scale-up processes for kilo-lab, pilot plant and/or full commercial manufacturing.Specific Responsibilities• Safely integrate highly pyrophoric, corrosive, and toxic chemicals into processes for scale-up to kilo-lab, pilot plant and commercialization without incident. • Ideate and demonstrate new trade secret routes to overcome difficult synthetic obstacles toward a commercially profitable product route.• Successfully lead diverse teams of analytical, engineering, and operations during scale-ups of newly developed multi-step processes containing.• Utilize broad understanding of analytical spectroscopic techniques to develop a full analytical matrix for step-wise following of reactions in scale-up and subsequent hand-off to analytical for implementation to commercialization. • Provide troubleshooting and plant support for commercially manufactured products when deviations outside of normal operating conditions occur.• Author project reports and communicate project results to cross-functional program teams of business, management, engineering and other scientists.• Lead sitewide polyolefin catalyst laboratory safety team.

Perform routine maintenance and repair broken hardware, as well as, train new users in proper protocols for use of: GC/MS, HPLC, GC, Capillary Electrophoresis, Fluorimeter, UV/Vis, FTIR, Potentiostat.

Develop macrocyclic tetra-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes for oxidative homogenous catalysis utilizing dry gloveboxes and standard schlenk techniques. Characterize all potential catalysts with mult-nuclear NMR, X-ray crystallography, Mass spectrometry, cyclic voltammetry, and additional spectroscopic techniques. Screen potential catalysts for activity and optimize reaction conditions for catalysis.
