Domestic Fisheries Policy: Future discards policy and landing obligation.

Senior Policy Advisor EU and International Waste July 2015-August 2016Represented the UK during EU negotiations on reviewing the Waste Framework Directive. Developed and implemented an engagement strategy in dealing with EU institutions and UK stakeholders.

Drafted air quality plans where high incidences of nitrogen oxides occur. Led the UK Government response to the Commons Environmental Audit Committee’s report on air quality.

Represented the UK in EU negotiations for UK to use Hydrochlorofluorcarbons. I developed and implemented an engagement strategy to ensure the UK gained EU approval. Engaged Embassies to lobby on our behalf.

Led successful EU negotiations on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and Common Market Organisation in Aquaculture and Fisheries Products as part of the Common Fisheries Policy.Successfully influenced UK and Non- UK MEP’s on UK’s position before critical votes in the European Parliament. Evaluation and analysis of the Commission's proposals including consultation with stakeholders to improve the proposals. Set up meetings with other Member States to form a block to influence Commission.Elevated the UK’s standing on the world stage by successfully influencing WTO members to support the UK policy proposal of reducing harmful fisheries subsidies.

Conducted negotiations on the UK’s position on animal slaughter proposals with the Commission and other stakeholders.

Provided a clear strategy to enhance Government's relationship with Marine Minerals industry including quicker turnaround times for applications to extract marine minerals. Improved Govt agencies operational turnaround.

Several posts held during this period covering the Common Agriculture Policy's single payment scheme, marketing of pig meat products, beef and sheep meat agri-environment schemes and salmon and freshwater fisheries. Further information is available on my CV.
