Investment program in education in Chad. The investment during that period was approximately $20 million in the areas of basic education, classroom construction, girls' education, teacher education, and community school support.

in addition to the above responsibilities for education, I was responsible for the management and maintenance of the office technology, and the Bank's satellite communications system in Chad.

I was recruited to the Bank in mid 1990, and during my initial months was a member of several education teams working in Zambia, Malawi, Mocambique, Namibia, and Tanzania on diverse areas including elements of primary secondary and teacher education.

Prior to Zimbabwe becoming independent in 1980, my research interests included the application of distance learning techniques to the training of teachers and the teaching of science using untrained classroom teachers. After independence, at the request of the new government, I became heavily involved in the expansion of science education and teacher education in the country:National Project Director of the Zim-Sci Program which successfully introduced hands-on science education to rural schools through the use of study guides and detailed guides for untrained teachers; (see publications)During my period at the University of Zimbabwe I was also responsible for writing and presenting a series of 12 radio programs entitled: 'How it Works' a series which pioneered interactive radio in Zimbabwe. Programs described the operation of common technological devices. (e.g. radio, refrigerator etc) through simple classroom based experiments, and were broadcast to schools over the national network.I also created, scripted and presented two national television series: one on a similar theme ('how it works and how to fix it' 20 programs of 15 minutes); and the other on inter-related aspects of science and industry in Zimbabwe (three series each of 20 programs of 30 minutes).
