Principal Scientist
January 2007 – May 2011: Translational Group, Pharmacokinetics Dynamics and Metabolism (PDM). Experienced with a wide range of immunoassay techniques including competitive and non competitive ELISA, DELFIA, Luminex and MSD. Experience in liaising with clinical contacts and contract research organisations regarding method/study progress and transfers. Responsible for sharing technical knowledge in to and out of the translational group and advising higher management on capital purchase strategy.Laboratory safety steward.Major AchievementsDesigned, wrote, implemented and responsible for a flexible GCLP quality system capable of working to a wide range of quality levels depending upon the type of work being performed. The system was designed, evaluated and rolled out within short timelines and enabled analytical savings to the company of approximately £600,000.Liaised with clinical colleagues to develop a "fit for purpose" analytical process allowing multiple analyses for a wide range of analytes without stringent validation requirements. Co-led a global group to train contacts in similar departments on other sites to be able to use the same approach.Volunteered responsibility for programming and the application of automated systems (Hamilton Star/Starlet and Tomtec Quadra) to aid method development and performance. A number of methods were written, tested and used to support a range of discovery and clinical studies before circulating worldwide to other research sites. AwardsResearch Recognition Award (and subsequent yellow belt Lean Six Sigma certification) for improvements to a biomarker immunoassay. This included a reduction in sample turnaround time from 4 days to 24 hours and a reduction of costs to the department of more than 90%Left position due to redundancy because of site closure.
Senior Scientist
PDM, 1998-2007Supporting small compound PK analysis (including clinical "first in man" and GLP compliant support) as a team leader, study director and bioanalyst using techniques including LC-MS, HPLC, DELFIA, SPE. Responsible for co-writing and updating the group's SOPs at a local and global level.Major AchievementsSupervised a small team of analysts to perform clinical and preclinical support. Responsible for workload, training, QC'ing data and performance management. Supervisor and primary training contact for a school leaver. Over a period of time trained the individual up to a level above some colleagues who had started at the company with a degree.Represented the department at helping to write and administer a site wide GLP Quality system. Represented the site at writing global departmental GLP SOPs relating to the validation and sample analysis of chromatographic and ligand binding methods.Supported a number of clinical first in human methods (as analyst and/or responsible scientist) using LC-MS, immunoassay and HPLC. The methods all required high sensitivity, reliability and to be validated within strict guidelines, each with specific challenges.Developed an immunoassay for a novel compound and validated in plasma from a number of species to GLP levels and first in human clinical support. These were the first ligand binding methods validated to GLP levels in the department despite only having a relatively unspecific IgM antibody at the time.Departmental responsibility for HPLC software system including software updates, training, testing, justification, replacement, liaising with MHRA GLP inspectors etc.
Associate Scientist
Small compound PK analysis from clinical studies using a range of sample preparation techniques followed by immunoassay (RIA) or LC-MS measurement.Major AchievementsSupported a number of novel compounds through early development by validating and routinely running a number of methodsPerformed a number of techniques including liquid liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, column switching HPLC and immunoassay (RIA)Writing reports including those for the method, validation and sample analysis.
