I am performing studies to help determine how to maintain science productivity in existing NRAO telescopes while ngVLA is designed, constructed, and commissioned. I manage a team of engineers in the Electronics Division. My team proposes, designs, implements, and maintains hardware, FPGA firmware, and software to sample and process radioastronomy data. I have a special interest in creating forward-looking designs and processes that maximize the efficiency of construction and operation, and that benefit from crossing.

During my tenure as Engineering Manager in the Electronics Division, I have also developed software for tasks including diagnostic data analysis, automated testing, and data transfer. These projects have used unusual technologies such as machine learning, fuzzy logic, and behavior trees, and have included writing Linux device drivers, designing complex.

I constructed an airplane: two-seat, high-performance, aerobatic, riveted aluminum. I developed and executed a flight test plan that included envelope exploration and aerobatic maneuvers, then I flew the plan as test pilot. I continue to maintain and fly the airplane today.

I earned licenses to fly airplanes and helicopters, and have piloted a variety of airplanes and helicopters in the United States. I also enjoyed some turbine helicopter time in Switzerland and British Columbia.

I created technology centered around the use of spread-spectrum modulation of seismic waves for geological imaging and communication. I founded an LLC, applied for patents, and carried the patent process as far as was reasonable.

As a software design engineer, I managed test teams in the Microsoft Exchange Server group during its initial releases, focusing on the Message Transfer Agent and the HTTP-DAV and OLEDB protocols. I created many test tools independently and with my teams to automate testing, apply load, measure performance, and maintain laboratory test environments.
