Founder (Retired)Midland Valley 1983 - 2014GlasgowAlan has now retired from Midland Valley to devote time to the family business.Alan has worked as an academic, senior specialist in a state company and as founder and director of Midland Valley in 1983, steering its technical and commercial development as an international company with global recognition. He is responsible for a number of seminal publications in the application of structural geology to oil and gas exploration and production with his 1984 Geol Soc paper being one of the most quoted papers in the Geological Society between 1980 and 2000. His work cuts across many areas of expertise and his company has generated software and techniques that crossover into many important disciplines and areas of industry. Over the last 25 years he has been involved in projects globally in several cases seeing projects through several technical and commercial cycles. In 2011 Alan stepped down from his role as CEO in Midland Valley following a successful MBO. He was then involved as chairman providing strategic advice to the Board and as team mentor.
