Having been made redundant by Syntegra I decided to set up my own business and used my skills to develop an online dating website. The website is a one man venture which now has over 14,000 active members.The site is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database. I am currently updating my skill set to include Web 2 technologies.

Project: Air Logistics Cargo Community System – UK (CCS-UK)1) Analysed the complex airfreight EDI messages and advised customers, or their software providers, of the corrective action required for successful message exchange.2) Optimised the MS Access reporting database and enhanced its report generation capabilities. Monitored and developed enhanced management reports for the message exchange between the various business partners.3) Ensured that all documents generated was compatible with the CCS-UK project standards (including quality and security) and procedures.4) Liased with customers by telephone and email to review traffic volumes and monitored the message take-on tasks.5) Reviewed the project web site (http://www.ccx.com) and assisted in development using Dreamweaver.6) Audited customer information and amalgamated it into one MS Access repository.7) Wrote and maintained the project Risk Register and contributed to risk management activities. Alan also wrote the Quality Management System (QMS) documentation for the project.

Project SettleNET£3billion worth of company shares are traded through this London Stock Exchange network on an average day. I was the Test Team Leader which involved System and Integration Testing and rolling out the new version of the software and cryptography to 400+ customers. My role included writing and reviewing test specifications; setting up test hardware; reviewing test results; planning test phases in MS Project and reporting progress to the main team.

Project: BT Network Services1) Investigated the use of ASP/ColdFusion and similar technologies in web development and built my skills in these products so that the proposed web-based user interfaces to the project could be developed.2) Wrote the Technical Specification in which it was decided to use Rapid Application Development methods using ColdFusion and MS Access to bring all of BT's disparate data together.3) Assisted in the requirements capture phase, working with the customer to refine the requirements and expand the team's understanding of the requirements. This work included contributing to the data model, business volume model and testability analysis.4) Took on responsibility for developing the database structure, tables and in the writing of queries and reports in MS Access. Also developed the Intranet site using ColdFusion where this information was ultimately published. Additional use of HTML and JavaScript.5) Developed additional database functionality for Programme Office users.6) Liased closely with Syntegra colleagues involved with Customer Service, working to raise business issues, improve the account relationship and understand the wider scope of the CS programme(s).

Project: BT Sales and Marketing 1) Provided database administration (DBA) and support on for all WhiteCross Datawarehouse data repository users to the 3Tb marketing data.2) Developed, documented and supported DBA procedures and wrote the WhiteCross User Guide for the project to QMS standards.3) Focused on developing communication channels and working relationships with end users.4) Performed user ad-hoc data loads to the server as required.5) Performed standard data loads on a monthly basis in a minimum time frame, highlighting problems or issues with the data as soon as possible.6) Generated and published meta-data information in HTML for the monthly table loads on the BT Intranet. This also included a web page showing the current server status.7) Provided second line support from 8:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday on a rota basis with his colleagues to assist end users with their queries or faults.8) Provided weekend cover to test WhiteCross server upgrades and cover other out of hour's work as required and scheduled.9) Designed, wrote and helped to run millennium compliance testing.10) Maintained a configuration management database of all data on the WhiteCross server.11) Performed client tool installations and upgrades for end users. Participated in end user training and consultancy sessions with the objective of further understanding end user business objectives and identifying ways the division could add value. Testing of new software releases was also carried out.12) At the end of the project with Syntegra, Alan managed the decommissioning of the BT WX9020 server and project handover to WhiteCross Systems Ltd.
