Born in Burnley. Educated at Open Air School, . Worked in family car firm until joining RAF. Worked on Blackpool Transport for 2 years. Started fresh career as a day old chick salesman. Started my own business at 28 selling to farmers. I had a mobile shop until I was 40 then took premises in Pilling sold out in 1993 fter a fire. Carried on selling cow mats and roofing sheets which I still do on a part-time basis.Started learning piano when I was 7, passed all RSM exams then started a dance band career when I was 15. Formed a trio and played village halls etc. At 16 I joined the Alf Marsden Band at Padiham Town Hall and then joined Jack Hicks band at Empress Ballroom, Burnley. at 17 I did a 6 months season at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood. Joined RAF at 18 and played as a dep in many Manchester ballrooms. Returning to Blackpool I got a job at the Movenpick, part of the Lobster Pot Group and stayed there for 12 years and played for big name artists. Dorothy Squires, Gary Miller, David Whitfield etc. I also played often for Josef Locke who was a real character.I then formed a trio and played at the Polish Club for 7 years earning a comment in The Stage as probably the best trio in the North West. Then spent several years at the Kimberley Hotel. I also played for Thornton Cleveleys Operatic Society for 22 years. When I married my wife Barbara we stared working as a duo. We were at the Grand and Fernlea hotels in St annes for 3 years and then 7 years at the Clifton Arms Hotel, Lytham Many of the top golfers stayed when the Open was played at Royal Lytham and I got to know Jack Nicholas quite well. From there we worked for over 5 years on Fred Olsen Cruises, a fabulous job with passenger food and cabin Had to work 4 hours a day. It was like paid holidays and we got to see quite a lot of the world.. Now we just entertain at old peoples homes etc.I play organ at St Mark's Church in Blackpool, but my main job these days is enjoying holidays, meals out and the theatre,
