The headline describes me as 'Retired at Home' and that's still mostly true, but things change. We have a Men's Group at our church which we have named 'Re:Tyred'. We're made up mostly of retired men, but our group name has a strapline 'Men finding God's purpose in later life'. We don't believe that retirement is all about putting you feet up, playing the odd round of golf and going on cruises - not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with any of those things. We believe that God may have a new 'set of tyres' for us and that's exactly what I've been discovering in the last year.I now have three new jobs! 1. My wife prompted me to become an exam invigilator at our local secondary school. Very seasonal work but takes me back to where my working life started as a teacher. 2. Support Officer for a Christian charity working with some of the poorest children in Kisumu, Kenya, applying for grants and helping generally with fundraising. 3. Director of Trust Financial Planning. This is the newest role and we're still working out what it looks like. It's the one taking me most out of my comfort zone, but that's what God has a habit of doing. Watch this space.
