Alan is an enthusiastic, energetic professional supporting consumers and communities take up broadband Internet for health, education and economic activities with a focus on ensuring sustainable service. He has been special advisor for telecoms to the Global eHealth Foundation (GeHF), chaired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. For a number of years he was a Judge for UK community broadband initiatives for NextGen & Digital Challenge Awards. He regularly presents and chairs high level events such as ITU World Telecom and ITU GSR19. He acts as a mentor to graduates such as those involved in Alacrity established by Sir Terry Mathews.Alan completed a 2 year term as Regulator in Vanuatu, a trustee of the UA Fund and a 2 year term as DG of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Bahrain. These appointments followed a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications (IT, Broadcasting, content, internet, voice & data coms) industry working with consumers, including being on the OFCOM Consumer Panel and CMA Board. In 2009 Alan was voted one of the Top most influential people in the Middle East. Under Alan’s leadership TRA Bahrain won, two awards for the most progressive Regulator. Alan has acted as a senior advisor, to Ministers, Regulators and Boards of companies throughout Europe Middle East and Africa, in developing policy and liberalising telecommunications and broadcasting markets. Alan has played an active role in the formative years of liberalisation participating in and chairing working groups for the European Commission. He has been President of the Arab Network of 18 Regulators, Chairman of Eurostrategies a Belgium based consulting firm, Chairman and Managing Director of InterConnect Communications, a regulatory consulting firm he founded in 1984 and sold to Telcordia Technologies of the USA in 2001.Specialties: Proven track record of performing in a series of senior leadership role within the ICT sector.
