Alan is Managing Director of ASAT Consultancy Limited which is a company providing independent advice for strategy, analysis and business case development for the Satellite sector. Prior to this he was Chief Architect for Inmarsat Space Segment and Systems. He has exceptional expertise from over 28 spacecraft programs leading the conceptualisation and implementation of innovative leading edge technology solutions to deliver business opportunities involving satellite and terrestrial networks and technologies.Alan's has a proven track record of specifying, negotiating and contracting innovative space segment solutions, for which the current accumulated in-orbit lifetime exceeds 250 years. Examples include the Global Xpress Mobile Satellite system which developed leading edge Ka band technologies to deliver high speed internet connectivity on a Global range. Another example was the design and development of the Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) which was a $1.6 Bn program to deliver 3G compatible communications services to mobile customers, worldwide using the highly innovative and complex Inmarsat-4 satellites. This program included not only specifying and contracting for the three spacecraft, but also creating the end to end system and rolling out a global terrestrial IP network to connect Inmarsat's network of gateway landing stations to customers via a combination of MPLS, IP VPN and other leading edge technologiesAlan's capabilities to leverage leading edge technologies to create innovative solutions to deliver unique business opportunities. Alan is a proven leader of high calibre teams, with a proven track record of innovation in communications engineering, program management and business development. He has worked interactively with all the major space and ground segment manufacturers worldwide and has experience from working as an international assignee in both the USA and in Europe.
