My current interests are in the areas of large-scale machine learning and distributed systems. I started Prism Informatix to explore decentralized approaches to predictive analytics using distributed algorithms that goes beyond the map-reduce programming model. The result is what we call Collaborative Analytics, a fundamentally new approach for learning and prediction on high-variety Big Data from multiple data sources that does not incur the cost of data integration prior to machine learning. Instead of bringing all the data together and then distributing it for machine learning in a data center, we bring the compute to the data by learning local predictive models in situ at each data source. Intelligent agents deployed at each data source then collaborate across the network, integrating the information extracted from these local models to learn a network model. This learning of the network model is orders of magnitude faster than learning the centralized model, using compact communications across the network that obfuscates the underlying raw data, and can therefore be performed across an internet wide network. The result of this efficiency is a shortening of the analytics lifecycle, enabling adaptation of models to changing data and rapid incorporation of new data sources, all while preserving the privacy of data sources.
