My primary responsibility was to develop and deliver the national business strategy for the exterior lighting team. I ensured technical excellence, consistency, conformity and quality across the whole exterior lighting team, both nationally and internationally. I also set the agenda for training/qualifications/CPD/mentoring across the sector
My main responsibilities were managing Lighting and Electrical teams based in Derby and Guildford and acting as a Technical Advisor on Street Lighting PFI projects. I was a member of the Lighting and Electrical senior management team, which helped to develop business strategies that ensured continuous growth within our sector. I developed presentations and proposals which I presented to new and existing clients. I deputised for the Divisional Director as and when required.
I managed both the street lighting and highway maintenance administration teams. During the procurement of the street lighting PFI I led on all technical and service delivery issues from the ISOP stage through, Invitation to Negotiate (ITN), Preferred Bidder (PB) and Financial Close. I designed lighting schemes for a wide variety of situations including city centres, residential areas, motorways, PFI contracts, building facades, monuments, RAF bases, sports pitches and car parks.

I carried out night time photometric tests to compare light levels before and after schemes had been replaced, and in order to compare the results to calculated values.I project managed the complete asset survey, which resulted in a fully populated electronic data set and GIS mapping system, complete with the ability to electronically issue of works to the DLO.I wrote and presented reports to council committees and chief officers. I produced bids for additional funding, one of these was for New Deal for Communities money for which we were allocated £1.2 million. This involved installing one of the earliest radio frequency remote monitoring schemes in the country. I was responsible for the installation and maintenance of all street lighting and illuminated street furniture for the southern half of the city. This included liaising with private developers and civil engineering contractors on major road building projects and by passes.
I designed all of the new lighting schemes within the borough, these were usually section 38 schemes, junction improvements and road safety schemes. I designed the lighting for the new relief road and supervised all of the installation of this work. I assisted with the locating of underground cable faults as and when required.
My main duties were to carry out site surveys and design the lighting schemes for the capital programme, in the Barnsley and Doncaster areas of the county. I also produced standard drawings for the insertion into contract documents. For about one year I was seconded to the maintenance section, this was to ensure that I had an understanding of how design and maintenance issues were interlinked.
