Mechanical Engineer
Current• Support the mechanical design team in designing and prototyping parts for the development of a rapid RT-PCR diagnostic machine for animal disease testing• Utilize SolidWorks for part design and utilize the Bambu 3D printer and various filament such as PLA, carbon fiber reinforced PLA, and polycarbonate filament to print out parts requiring certain properties and dimensional tolerances• Use SolidWorks and Bambu Slicer Software to adjust scaling and dimensions in the part files to account for different shrinkage and warping of various PLA, 3D-printed geometries, needed for low tolerance requirements• Operate machinery such as the mill, bandsaw, and perform soldering tasks to fabricate and assemble components• Conduct thermal, optical, and other tests on newly assembled units to ensure proper functionality and performance• Troubleshoot errors and resolve issues encountered during the usage of units, ensuring smooth and optimal operationAchievements:• Under the guidance of the chief engineer and in collaboration with the biochemistry team, created new designs of the incubator component that improved ease of use and greatly increased heat transfer rate• Prototyped new designs of the optical module assembly that minimized light leakage, decreased noise, and enhanced the machine’s accuracy in detecting targeted disease DNA segments
