I attended Michigan State University as a double major in Chemistry and Psychology and graduated in the top 1 percent of my class and served as President of my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu (sammies). I attended Medical School at University of Michigan from 1974-1978. This is where I became interested in Cardiology, was voted class speaker at medical school graduation and stayed in Ann Arbor.I chose Michael Reese Hospital for my residency, which was a south side of Chicago Medical Center affiliate of University of Chicago. It was here that I was inspired in creating material for my two novels, "Bedside Manners" and "Brain Chicane' I stayed an extra year to be Chief Medical Resident.As a clinical cardiology fellow at University of California, San Diego from 1982-84, I worked two years in a Pharmacology Laboratory and was appointed to the faculty in 1986. Currently I serve as a full Professor of Cardiology at UCSD and Director of the Coronary Care Unit and the Heart Failure Program at the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center.1) Teaching: Numerous teaching awards on all levels of the medical school and residency programs.2) Administration: Chair of the Faculty at UCSD and Chair of the Medical School Admissions and current Associate Editor of Journal of American College of Cardiology3) Research: Published 600+ peer reviewed articles and Editor for several textbooks. I am considered a world expert on cardiac biomarkers and am given credit for clinically bringing BNP testing into worldwide clinical practice.4) Companies: a. Co-founder of Cardero Therapeutics with a drug that leads to mitochondria biogenesis. b. Founder of a company in Germany, My Life, whose purpose is to develop and test novel biomarkers5) other work- i am an expert in editing - both medical and non medical- with over 600 scientific publications and two novels,i am available to help in this area
